Napier Police have arrested and charged two men in relation to an incident in Maraenui last month where a firearm was presented at two police officers.
At about 8.15am on September 29, officers attempted to halt a red Mitsubishi sedan on Wycliffe St in Maraenui. As police followed the fleeing driver, a passenger in the rear of the car leaned out the window and pointed a gun at the officers.
The pursuit was called off and the car was last seen on Richmond St, Maraenui. The Armed Offenders Squad, along with police officers, later searched two addresses and discovered the sedan on a property in Kelvin Rd.
Detective Ryan Kemsley said the men, aged 24 and 25, are charged with presenting a firearm at a law enforcement officer in relation to the 29 September incident.
"The men also face additional charges of unlawfully being in a vehicle, possession of a firearm, presenting a firearm, and charges for driving offences in relation to a separate incident on October 8."
The men have been remanded in custody and are due to appear in Napier District Court on October 20.
Kemsley said Police wish to thank the public for their ongoing support and information provided in relation to the whereabouts of one of the men.
As this matter is now before the court, Police is not able to comment further.
