Hawke's Bay police are asking for the public's help to find a man they wish to speak with in relation to a sexual assault.

They have released a sketch of a man they describe to be of Indian descent.

The assault happened at Park Island in Napier, just after 3am, on Sunday June 19.

Police say the man may have signs of facial injury, "particularly around his nose" as a result of the victim trying to defend herself.

Police issued a statement following the incident which said a four-door white vehicle containing three people, who were described as an Indian male and two Indian females, picked up a young female from near the Ahuriri Liquorland carpark, West Quay, Napier about 3.10am.

After the two females got out of the car, the male driver then drove the female victim to a secluded carpark area near the hockey grounds at Park Island where he allegedly assaulted the young female.

During this attack the female struck the offender in his face.

The attacker then fled the scene in the white vehicle.
