It is set to close its doors this Friday.
The closure was described as a result of falling foot traffic over the past three years as more people took up other banking options.
It was that drop in foot traffic, which had become a national trend across the banking landscape, which had led to the merging of the two Hastings banks, an ANZ spokesperson said.
"We have seen a significant decrease in transactions in both these branches over the past three years - this reflects a global trend as more customers use internet and mobile banking," ANZ manager corporate communications Emma Mellow said.
The decrease was said to be running at around 20 per cent.
The branches are about 300m apart and with customer parking at the Hastings North branch ANZ management were hopeful their customers would find it a straight-forward change.
"We will also be combining our teams to better serve our customers, " Ms Mellow said.
"From March 27 they will have access to our specialist business banking as well as commercial and Agri teams."
Staff will be relocated within the region.
She said the Hastings North, Napier and Taradale branches were all in for an upgrade this year to improve accessibility which would include 24-hour lobbies and 'Smart' ATMs.
In September last year ANZ announced the closure of its Ngaruawahia branch and was consulting on plans to close six more "low volume" branches.
At that stage Westpac had closed 19 smaller branches around the country.
