Public safety at the Hastings District Council's refuse transfer station is again under question, after a man fell into a dumping area on Sunday.
The man, in his 50s, was not seriously injured but was taken by St John Ambulance to Hawke's Bay Hospital after the second incident of its type this year at the Henderson Rd refuse station. He was discharged from hospital later on the same day, the council said.
In February a tip-face was closed for a short time after a man received minor injuries in a fall.
Tall barriers were installed across the face of the tipping area and a contract had been let to build a steel ramp below the tipping point to make the drop less dangerous.
The council said the man in Sunday's incident was dumping waste from the one area without a barrier, used for tipping trailers. He fell 1.5m on to the concrete below.
