Hawke's Bay Tourism general manager Annie Dundas says this weekend's The Big Easy ride is as much about the stops as the cycling.
What's new at this year's event?
The Little Easy in Wairoa - Wairoa has some amazing new cycle trails and so we decided to run our first Little Easy event in Wairoa on Easter Sunday.
There's a wealth of cycling events now in the region - how is this one different?
This is a "go slow and savour" kind of event, its not a race, it's about the stops as much as the cycling! It's also entirely dedicated to riding the Hawke's Bay Trails which no other event is.
Where do we stand nationally in terms of our cycle trails?
Well our trails are part of the New Zealand Cycle Trails Network so we are listed as a Great Ride of 22 in the country. People love the Hawke's Bay Trails for their easy access, being pretty flat and being super close to cafés, wineries and coffee!
How many people have registered for this year's event?
We are up on last year with over 1300 pre registrations and we expect several hundred more on the day
Tell us what's happening at the wrap-up concert.
Well its our fifth Big Easy event so we are going all out on the Concert at Church Road - "The Easy Riders" are the main event (they come on at 4pm) and they include - Jackie Clarke, Annie Crummer, Suzanne Lynch and Rikki Morris. Kicking off the festivities at 2pm local talent, Hidden Agenda and singer/songwriter Ian Munro will take the stage and get you on your feet.
