Finding one person among the 1.4 billion people who live in China, without knowing that person's name, has been keeping secondary students in Hastings District busy for the past few weeks in The Amazing China Face Race.
As a sequel to the 2015 Amazing China Face Race, which won National Sister Cities Honours in New Zealand, and widespread acclaim in China, this year's challenge is stretching the imaginations and abilities of students further.
Hastings district councillor Kevin Watkins said the motivation behind the race "is to kindle teenagers' interest in China and its people".
