TV2 and TV3 are the movie channels for both days and to be fair, the line-ups are pretty good, although it's slightly odd that on Christmas Day there is only one slightly Christmas-themed film, and it is animated.
There's Lady and The Tramp, Last Holiday and Risky Business on TV2 while TV3 rolls out Little Fockers and Les Miserables.
They also unleash the Rise of the Guardians which is an animated tale about the world's "immortal guardians" getting together to take on an evil spirit who wants to turn the world into a nasty place.
Among the guardians is a chap called Santa Claus... and that's as Christmassy as it gets.
It is TV1 that delivers all the Yuletide.
Like Gadget Man's Guide to Christmas where host Richard Ayoade goes on the search for odd and interesting gadgets that have the potential to make those Christmas chores easier.
What... like something that will pay the credit card bills?
And there is the Miranda Christmas Special, a festive outing of Mrs Brown's Boys and (if anyone could care less) My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas.
However, there is still one long-standing traditional Christmas show amidst the usual fare and fodder and it's star is genuinely international.
Her Majesty the Queen's Christmas Message will broadcast at 6.50pm. A 10-minute compilation of how the family's been getting on, how the world is buckling a little, and how important it is to keep one's chin up and carry on.
Her Majesty even gave us a great and memorable one-liner which is right up there with the legendary likes of "go ahead, make my day" and "I'll be back" and "shaken not stirred".
"My husband and I..."
Although to be fair, she hasn't said that for a couple of years now.
I wonder if they'll play the British national anthem? Maybe we should have held a referendum to see if we wanted Blighty's national ditty or our own one.
ON THE BOX:
* The Graham Norton Show, TV3 at 8.55pm Thursday: There is a timely point of difference to this edition of motormouth Graham's chat series. One of his guests is Carrie Fisher from the latest Star Wars epic, which as we know has ignited the world of cinema today the same way the original did back in 1977. She is also joined by others from the cast, but don't expect them to give away the great script secrets... that's the job of the internet. I suspect Graham will give the heavy-breathing Darth Vadar voice a shot somewhere along the way. On the musical side Kylie Minogue calls in.
* Sol3 Mio: Live in Concert, Prime at 8.30pm Thursday: What a remarkable tale of success these three lads have woven since they first cleared their throats and began to sing. Apart from producing fine performances they have also opened the arena of opera singing to a far greater audience. They almost make it... cool. Because they engage with people and fuse humour into their act. And they roll out a catalogue of songs which is stacked and packed with diversity. A great shining light on the Kiwi entertainment landscape.
* QI: No-L Christmas Special, Prime at 7pm Christmas Day: I would assume this was filmed and produced around the same time Graham Norton's show was made, as one of the guests just happens to be... Carrie Fisher. So yes, while the "quite interesting" theme is a Christmas one it would be fair to assume some reference to "the dark side" or a joke about the way C3PO walks will be made. Bill Bailey and Jimmy Carr (two of the sharpest guests in town) will join Alan Davies and host Stephen Fry. It will be fun.
*Master and Commander:The Far Side of the World, Prime at 8.30pm Sunday. For a colourful and ooh-arr nautical adventure this is about as good as it gets. Russell Crowe was on top of his game... and the seafaring images are superb. I'll unlock a brandy and hit the waves.
