"I had a really hard time choosing what to go to, but I'm a bourbon drinker so Southern Love was a no-brainer, but I had to choose between Martin's event and Fire it Up (at Crab Farm) - so I tossed a coin."
While he was a newcomer to the Bay's premier wine and food event, Mr Cortese has attended Tremains Art Deco Weekend for the past two years, and enjoys any excuse for a bit of relaxation, good weather and great hospitality.
This time around he will split his stay between the urban Art Deco Masonic Hotel and Millar Rd's rural vineyard setting.
"The more time I spend there, the better for my soul. I'm coming down to get some R&R and come to a great event - you guys do events as they should be done."
He was so sure of the region's ability to deliver, Mr Cortese even did some promotion for F.A.W.C!s winter series in Auckland.
"Even the name is great, it's so catchy, kind of like the World of Wearable Arts - especially in winter, the more they promote it to Aucklanders the better."
When February rolled around it was time to leave two kids with their grandparents, grab some friends and revel in Napier's 1930s atmosphere.
The deco devotees were hooked and couldn't get enough of all the weekend had to offer.
"It's no secret both times Nerida and I have been back for deco and we will be there next year. It's an event that's world-class. I almost want to see it extend to Art Deco Week; there's so much to do, but there's so much you miss out on."
He also played in the Legends of Cricket Art Deco Match this year and would like something similar to open the 2016 event.
