Two people in custody for two months since being charged after an alleged assault on a long-serving Hawke's Bay police officer are expected to remain in jail for at least another month pending an appearance in the High Court in Napier.
The appearance at a trials callover on October 27 was set in post-committal proceedings in the Hastings District Court yesterday, although the two were not required to attend.
Lance Christopher Pirini, 31, from Mt Roskill, and Joy Moana Leaf, 30, of Onehunga, are jointly charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Senior Constable Alan Daly in an incident in Elizabeth Place, Clive, about 3.15pm on July 27. The officer suffered a fractured eye socket and suspected broken nose. A resident helped stop the attack.
