A two-day reprieve is in store for a sodden Hawke's Bay, before the week takes a nasty southerly turn from Wednesday.
A severe weather watch was issued by MetService yesterday morning for periods of heavy rain throughout Hawke's Bay but this was expected to ease today.
MetService meteorologist April Clark said Hawke's Bay had received solid rain since 9am yesterday morning with northern parts of the Bay reaching 23mms of rain by 4pm.
Outdoor events continued despite the heavy rain with Hawke's Bay Trail Running Series competitors braving the wet and muddy conditions and keen riders saddling up soggy mounts for the Maraekakaho Hairy Horse Show.
Trail run event director Jamie Sinclair said up to 150 runners competed on the course through Eskdale Forest yesterday in the "somewhat trying conditions".
