"I like to spectate, visit the stalls and hang with friends, it is just a fun vibe."
The Wairoa A & P Show Events Manager, Sue Wilson, said the equestrian entries were well up this year, a promising sign for the future.
Spectators of the showjumping were able to relax in the summer sunshine, eat a chilled icecream and watch the entertainment on offer.
Marama Karetai and her 3-year-old son Sunny were enjoying the horse events and were certainly soaking up the good weather.
"I love bringing Sunny and it is a fun day out for both of us.
Sunny won his first ribbon on a pony this year, which she said was "an added bonus."
If horses weren't on everyone's agenda, people could check out the stalls and see what tickled their fancy.
Wairoa citrus orchardist and food producers Graham Lancaster and Lorraine Dickey were settling in yesterday, expecting a busy day today.
Their orange marmalade was something not to be missed, as it won best food producer at the New Zealand Farmers Market Awards.
Sales were very promising last year and the couple were hoping to grow them this year.
Farmers were also wandering the grounds preparing for tomorrow's big stock day. Russell Dever a local Wairoa farmer was getting ready for the fat lamb competition.
He said it was very competitive between stations with some bringing 60-80 lambs.
"We hope to be successful but we farm on steep country, so it's hard to match with others on the flats."
Wairoa A & P Show president Dave Martin said the show was going well so far and was impressed with the numbers yesterday.
"We expect Saturday to be even bigger, especially with the amazing weather we are having."
