3. Swap 'til You Drop - Multiple Sclerosis Clothing Swap, Napier Sailing Club
The Multiple Sclerosis Society is hosting a clothing swap evening. You can bring up to 10 articles of clothing and exchange them for different items. The clothing will be placed on the table for people to go nuts as soon as the bell rings. There will also be some wine and raffles up for grabs throughout the night. Tickets are available from Rebecca Finlayson, phone 027 779 3777. The event begins at 7pm tonight and tickets cost $15. All money goes toward the MS Society.
4 First Sunday Funday, Ranui Farm Park
This one is great for the adventurous crowd, those looking for a spot of exercise, or those wanting to give the children a true farm experience. The kids can get up close to the animals with Ranui's petting zoo and pony rides, and the competitive can have a go at archery, paintball targets, golf shots, confidence courses, a 70-metre water slide, or, if you're brave enough, an 80-metre flying fox. The event begins at 9am tomorrow and is part of Central Hawke's Bay's "Spring Fling''. Tickets: adults $10, children under 18 $5.
5. The Sound of Music, Napier Municipal Theatre
This legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein musical features an unforgettable score that includes some of the most famous songs performed on the musical stage, including My Favourite Things, Edelweiss, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, The Lonely Goatherd, Climb Ev'ry Mountain and the title song, The Sound of Music. The musical tells the uplifting true story of Maria, a fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, culminating in the family's escape across the mountains from Austria. The show is touring New Zealand and arrives in Hawke's Bay tomorrow. The first show is at 3pm and the second show is at 7pm. 6. Pasifika Festival, Hastings Sports Centre
The festival will feature everything from Fijian and Tongan war dances to Cook Island drum beats today. It runs from 8am to 11.30am at the Hastings Sports Centre. There will be cultural performances, traditional island food with pork buns and bok choy, as well as stalls to help raise awareness of health, family violence and education. 7. It's a Kind of Magic, Pacific Crystal Palace Spiegeltent, Havelock North
Multiple award-winning writer Kate de Goldi's books are so intricately constructed, so beautifully voiced, they are beloved by adults and children alike. Steeped in stories and storytelling, Kate is joined by magician Gareth Ward, aka The Great Wardini, whose award-winning debut Young Adult novel is a steampunk potboiler of a story. The show begins tomorrow at 2.30pm at the Spiegeltent.
