Madison Bowey's dance moves have earned her a return flight to Australia and a 10-class pass at Urban Dance Centre, Sydney.
Bowey, who appeared in the Napier Operatic Society's production of Hairspray earlier this year, took classes at Born to Move Dance Studio in Hastings, and won the NZ Dance Network's Sydney scholarship at the organisation's second annual weekend workshop in the Bay.
She was one of 85 dancers from Hawke's Bay, Auckland, Taupo, Gisborne, Nelson and Christchurch who spent Saturday and Sunday performing ballet, hip hop, musical theatre, jazz and contemporary dance at the workshop, held at the Havelock North Primary School hall and K Studio of Dance.
Two dancers each from the beginners, intermediate and advanced level received scholarships to the 2014 workshop; Hannah Booth, Rosemary Jones, Emma Stuart, Georgia Shanks, Hannah Gailbraith and Josephine Mailisi, from Napier, Havelock North, Auckland and Nelson.
Tutoring ballet at the workshop was Martin James, Sydney, contemporary, former Hawke's Bay, Auckland based Perri Exeter, jazz, Blenheim's Kelly Webster, musical theatre, Katty Lay, Wellington, and hip hop, Nathan Wright and India Hakiwai, from Hawke's Bay and Melbourne.
