A new Best Western motor lodge has opened in Napier.
What was the Fairley Motor Lodge in Westshore is now the Best Western Fairley Motor Lodge.
Hugh Gordon has owned the motel for eight years and turned Best Western down at first.
"We turned them down about two years ago, mainly because of the loss of our identity," he said.
But the American-owned worldwide chain invited him to join again.
"There are many more pluses than minuses, especially for the guests - discounts and benefits can be used throughout the chain."
His first Best Western customers were from Germany and said they stayed exclusively in Best Western accommodation.
His motel would be audited twice a year to ensure standards were maintained.
