HSOB coach Wayne Ensor said he was pretty proud of his team’s second-half effort.
“It was a bit of a frustrating start,” he said.
“Waikohu played really well and we had a lot of things that didn’t go so well for us.
“We had a few players that didn’t show up and when we finally did get away, the bus broke down. So we had to get a new bus just to get out there.”
Ensor gave credit to Waikohu.
“They were really good in the first half but we were still half asleep during that part of it.”
To add to Reeves’s hat-trick and Wilson’s double, McGuire, blindside Will Bolingford, winger Latrell Walker and replacement back James Rutene all scored tries and Reeves added six conversions.
Second five-eighth Jacob Leaf, who was yellow-carded, kicked a conversion.
HSOB could take some positives from the game. They put up more points than they had in any other game this season, and they did it against last year’s runners-up.
Fullback Matthew Proffit scored two tries, and front-rower Russell Burns and replacement Keegan Jooste also got over the line.
Replacement back Bryan Howard kicked two conversions.
HSOB have an early game this week, hosting Ngatapa at the Oval on Friday night.
Waikohu will play Pirates at the Oval on Saturday.
