Poverty Bay’s Jarrod Ormiston about to crack the willow in front of Northland wicketkeeper Ryan Parkes in a twenty20 game at the Emerging Rangatahi Northern Districts under-19 cricket tournament which concluded in Gisborne yesterday.
Ormiston made his second half-century of the tournament — a dashing 53 off 34 balls, including
four fours and three sixes — in PB’s 137 all-out with two balls to go in the morning clash at Harry Barker Reserve. Teammate Te-Reimana Gray scored 34 off 24, but the total was chased down by the northerners in the 18th over for the loss of only two wickets. An opening partnership of 91 between Tommy Litchfield (44 off 46) and Sanchit Chopra (40 off 32) and an unbeaten 31 off 18 balls from Ryan Krige saw them to victory.
Poverty Bay ended the week-long tournament with a 10-over game against Counties Manukau in the afternoon. Counties Manukau belted 144 without loss, courtesy of Fraser Farrell’s 75 off 31 and Aryandeep Mann’s 64 off 30. The pair bludgeoned 13 fours and nine sixes. Poverty Bay replied with 68-6, Gray (22 off 13) and Bekko Page (11 off 13) their highest scorers.
