That total is the biggest posted by any of Poverty Bay's three teams (Y8, Y7, Y6) in their 30-over matches at Riverbend so far this season; the lowest total has been 24, in the Y7 team's nine-wicket loss to Karori Black.
Robertson and Reynolds, in at No.5 and No.6 respectively, each retired at 30. They and pace bowler Zac Davies (3-9 off three overs), all made the Riverbend Honours Board, which lists batsmen who score 30 runs, bowlers who take three wickets and fielders who play a part in three dismissals.
Although they didn't make the Honours Board, special mention should be made of wicketkeeper Henry Matete — he played a part in three run-outs and held a catch off the bowling of Davies to dismiss Johnsonville opener Jack Harris (one run) — and Josh Levy who, according to Cric HQ, featured in four run-outs.
Seamer Josh Morgan was the Wellingtonians' MVP for his excellent standard (2-14 off three overs) with the ball. Flighty off-spinner Thomas Surujpal (1-10 off three) and left-arm speedster Campbell Eggleton (1-11 off three) were the other wicket-takers in a well-rounded bowling attack.
Johnsonville coach Kerry Saywell saw at least as much skill in Poverty Bay's ranks.
“Three of their boys hit the ball very cleanly in that first innings,” Saywell said.
“Our bowlers started off well, with the Poverty Bay bowlers just as tight later on.”
Langford (1-4 off two overs), fellow paceman Curtis Wylie (1-9 off two) and leg-spinner Reynolds (1-16 off three) gave Davies great support.
First drop Yuvin Madnani and No.11 Harkirat Singh were the only Johnsonville batsmen to score in double figures, both making 11.
Reynolds bowled Singh to end what was for the Bay a great game of cricket in 27 overs, dismissing Johnsonville for 105.
Poverty Bay, under match-captain Charlie Castles, played Eastern Suburbs this morning on a grass wicket — Frimley Park No.4. They lost the toss and bowled first.
The Bay will be led by Henry Matete against Karori at Flaxmere Park on an artificial pitch this afternoon.
