Barry Memorial Croquet Club members played a golf croquet teams tournament with a difference.

Entrants were divided into two teams of eight, selected by captains Rob Hayes and John Wilson. Players competed in five rounds of either doubles or singles matches against opposing team members.

The Buzzards, captained by John Wilson, ran out easy winners, 22 matches to 12. They were on fire, Christine McCullough being the only player to win all five games. She was closely followed by George Ebbett, who won four and lost one.

Top player in the Vultures team was captain Rob Hayes, who had three wins.

The tournament format was so successful it was agreed it would be played annually.

The winning Buzzards team comprised John Wilson, Joseph Hogan, Ross Thomson, Christine McCullough, Mark Bousfield, Des Chaffey, George Ebbett and Glenis Ebbett.

Now that daylight saving has arrived, weekly Wednesday twilight golf croquet has started at the club in Aberdeen Road. All are welcome to come and try the game, but players must be aged 13 years and over. Entry is free, with gear and equipment supplied.

Report time for the first game is 4.15pm, and for the second round, players should report by 5.05pm. Three 35-minute games are played with different partners, with the last game finishing about 6.40pm.
