“High School Old Girls fought back in the third quarter to close the gap to two goals again,” Hall said.
Horouta still led 40-38 at three-quarter time.
“In the final 15 minutes of the match Horouta steadied and managed to hold the two-goal lead to take the win and earn themselves four points on the results table.
“HSOG picked up a bonus point.”
Horouta Gold head coach Charnelle Rutene said her girls were “overjoyed” to get the win.
“It was a rewarding result for the team because the girls have been doing a lot of work on and off the court.
“They deserved it.”
Rutene said the team were a tighter bunch now.
“They've been together a while; they're doing the work and they're progressing as a result,” she said.
“Win or lose, we're looking to be better than the last time we took the court.
“I'm really happy with the players, especially our captain, Lucretia Taitapanui, who is our goal keep and who always leads by example.”
The premier grade table has YMP (1) and Claydens Waikohu equal on 12 points, Whangara Old Girls on 8, F45 HSOG on 6, and JT Contractors Horouta Gold and Gillies Electrical Gisborne Girls' High School Senior A both on 5. YMP and Waikohu both have two games left to play in this round; the rest have one game to play.
“It was a great day of games across the road at Victoria Domain too,” Hall said.
“The rain held off, so we managed to get through all games in our competition.”
