“It’ll come.”
The words of Brian Morrissey as he looks to add to his age-breaking performances.
Eighty-year-old BJ has done it plenty of times at his old club — Te Puia Hot Springs — and a few times at Poverty Bay where he has been a member for several years, including December 11, 2022, when he shot 79 at the age of 78.
And as the course dries out, middle-finding Morrissey has been threatening to do it again with three rounds of 81 this year so far.
The latest was on Tuesday in the weekly veterans’ competition he runs, although his 81-12-69, for 39 stableford points, was only good enough for second behind Māhia member Kelvin Ellison’s 90-22-68, for 40.
Don Wright’s Saturday Primo Cup net-winning 83-17-66 was the round of the week.
Andy Hayward (39pts) and Nigel Jones (40) were the Sunday Division 1 and 2 men’s stableford winners respectively.
Neil Mackie won Division 1 men’s stableford last Thursday with 40 points while Richard Owen topped Division 2 with 38.
TUESDAY — Veterans’ stableford: K Ellison 40, B Morrissey 39, C Christie 37, S Franks 37, L Foster 36, R Brott 36.
Twos: C Christie.
