Electrinet Park
Jean Machine.
Shootout Specialist.
Foot to the Fore.
The headlines flowed after Jean Foot reasserted her status as Electrinet Park’s shootout queen.
The defending champion overcame 14 challengers to add 2023 to her list, which now numbers at least six titles over a period of 17 years.
Tai Aramakutu was the last to fall on Saturday after 15 players started on the fifth hole — Rebecca Walford the first to go.
She was followed by Kath Papuni (No.6), Sue Maisey (No.7), Karen Hay (No.8), Freida Brown (No.9), Kino White (No.10), Jaye McCafferty (No.11), Jacque Akuhata-Nickerson (No.12), Carney Pipi (No.13), Jo Kerr (No.14), Di Webb (No.15) and Tracey Ford (No.16).
Pat Johansen, the 2019 champion, fell on 17 — emulating her 2022 efforts.
That left Foot and Tai Aramakutu.
Aramakutu was getting a shot on the 18th, but could only watch as Foot sank a 15-footer for par, which proved good enough.
Shootout referee Barb Woods paid tribute to Foot’s survival skills.
“Jean’s amazing. She could have gone out a number of times.”
There was a bit of drizzle but otherwise it was “a fabulous day for the girls”, Woods said.
“And they all stayed on (after being eliminated) and supported the others.”

He headed to Patutahi on Friday and won the senior men’s section of the meat pack 9-hole stableford with 20 points.
