Kumar’s teammates, Rhys Grogan at No 5 and Nick Armour at six, also made hay. Grogan scored his maiden Premier Grade half-century - 54 - while Armour was in fine form for 30 after left-hander Martin Worndl excelled for 65 at the top of the order for OBR on a good, hard representative wicket.
OBR second-drop Harvey Reynolds' 22 and Etienne Botes' 25 not out off 32 balls at eight also pointed to the quality of the surface.
In Saturday’s other round 5 match-up, Gisborne Boys' High School First XI opener Charlie Whitfield got to 21 against Horouta in a low-scoring affair which Horouta won by just one wicket.
Horouta dismissed the students for 80 in the 22nd over - Baljeet Sandhu the stand-out with the ball as he took 6-20.
Horouta, who have already won the Walker Shield T15 and Doleman Cup titles this season, looked on track for a comfortable win when Boys' High skipper Ryker Rolls turned the game on its head.
Deciding to bowl medium-pace instead of his usual spin, Rolls bowled Horouta batsmen with consecutive balls and claimed two more as 10-man Horouta staggered to their victory target with one wicket to spare.
The wicket of danger man Gautam Sareen (for 39) - bowled by Nathaniel Fearnley - was vital in the GBHS fightback.
GBHS have four points heading into today’s meeting with OBR under the keen eye of Poverty Bay director of umpires Jason Trowill, while Stu Patrick will stand in the Horouta v HSOB game.
In the Senior B Grade Hope Cup 30-over championship, Horouta Te Waka - who held their composure to narrowly beat Gisborne Boys' High Second XI last weekend - play Chicking HSOB Presidents at 2pm.
GBHS seconds, most of whom were in a Colts team who beat Napier BHS by 28 runs in a T20 game away on Tuesday, play HSOB Presidents.
Against Horouta last Saturday, Joel Kirkpatrick carried his bat for 66 - his first Senior B 50 - as the students were dismissed six runs short of their target.
Three GBHS seam bowlers impressed - Tharuka Fernando taking 3-23 off four overs, Brandon Fearnley 3-30 off six and Robbie Newlands 2-27 off 5.
Leg-spinning all-rounder Conrad Parkes held two catches - one a thumping return catch to get rid of Horouta titan Ethan Ngarangione-Pearson.
