It seems it is almost impossible to obtain insurance for your home — even though homes are being repaired because of a natural disaster, and no fault of the home owner. What are home owners supposed to do? If homes can’t be insured, New Zealand will have a lot of slum areas; ie, Eskdale and parts of Wairoa, the Coromandel and Auckland.
