In my opinion, if an Israeli election were held now, Netanyahu would be knocked off his perch and possibly end up being jailed.
It would be simplistic to think that if he and some members of the war cabinet were even jailed for life if convicted of genocide, the war would stop. Even if the Gaza war stopped tomorrow, it would be unlikely that a solution other than “the one state or two state” solution could be arrived at any time soon, and either of those solutions would require a massive force of peacekeepers in the zone.
I believe that even if the Israeli governance was changed at polls, the war would continue until Israel got guarantees that they would not have to make any massive reparations towards the rebuilding of Gaza, or that their settlers would not be removed from lands they had “occupied”.
Of course, this is merely my opinion and the subsequent evolving of the situation, or more learned correspondents, may well prove me wrong. We can but wait and see.
