With local government elections getting closer, I have concerns about the council’s financial position following Meng Foon’s artificial 2 percent rates freeze.

Through your paper, could the mayoral candidates comment about this and the council debt — which is forecast to increase from $58 million to $105m in the 10-year long-term plan.

I would also be interested to hear from any new candidates who have a wish to be on the finance committee, about how they see the situation.
