The Trust Tairāwhiti Rescue Helicopter was called to Waipatiki Beach in Hawke's Bay on Monday afternoon to winch an injured teenager out of harm's way.
The teenager had fallen down a bank off a walking track on to a rocky area at the beach, which is located on the Hawke's
Bay side of Devils Elbow on State Highway 2.
He had suffered an ankle injury in the fall.
“The teenager couldn't climb back up the bank due to his injury, and he was in the tidal zone,” a chopper spokesman said.
“We were called in to winch him out and fly him to Hastings Hospital for treatment.”
