A man in custody went on the run from police yesterday as he was being moved from one area of the Gisborne police station to another.

He fled the station during the morning and police tracked him into the afternoon before he was located and taken into custody.

He was to appear in Gisborne District Court today charged with escaping police custody, resisting arrest, burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and wilful damage.
