THE Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement is described as follows by Ralph Nader in conversation with Chris Hedges — both individuals of high repute.
“The most audacious corporate power grab in American history . . . It allows corporations to bypass our three branches of government to impose enforceable sanctions by secrettribunals. These tribunals can declare our labour, consumer and environmental protections (to be) unlawful, non-tariff barriers subject to fines for noncompliance. The TPP establishes a transnational, autocratic system of enforceable governance in defiance of our domestic laws.”
TPPA is nothing less than a cunning plan implemented by corporate moguls through their political cronies. In fact it is not even cunning, it is blatant money/power grabbing.
Politicians like John Key will no doubt in due course retire with their knighthoods for services to “God, King and Country” and a packet of lucrative directorships.
A few global elites will profit magnificently while the vast majority will spend generations un-doing the mess, assuming they will survive the economic scrapheap and evolving environmental nightmares.
I was led to believe that TPPA was about promoting trade, however I note at least two elements which are clearly about profit. The proposal concerning medicines is totally about profit, as is the extension of copyright periods.
