Thieves make off with piece of sculpture

The rain-catcher sculpture at the Botanical Gardens is broken but the damage was not done by vandals.

“The sculpture broke after a branch fell from a nearby gum tree last Thursday,” a Gisborne District Council spokeswoman said.

However, more misfortune was to come.

“The tip of the sculpture appears to have been taken,” the spokeswoman said.
