Imagine Eastland Group as a sailing ship like the Spirit of Adventure. Under full sail it is a great sight as it powers steadily forward.
This is not good enough for the owners and the captain, however. They require more performance from the ship and they decide the best way forward is to get rid of the sails. Soon they decide that even more improvement is needed so they get rid of the masts.
The ship can still make way as it has a small engine, but its best use now is for fine dining at the captain’s table. With the catering out-sourced, the captain now has little to do except enjoy the ginormous fruits of his labours.
Maybe it’s time for these titans of business to move on lest they run the now not-so-good ship Eastland Group aground permanently.
Or maybe that has been the plan all along.
