Temperatures rising after Olympic Pool heating system fixed

The heat is back on at the Olympic Pool after a week of chilly water temperatures.

Repairs have been completed to the water heating system, with the therapy pool back to normal this morning and the temperature rising in the 50-metre pool.

Entry to the pool has been free since last weekend due to the cold water.

Pool staff told The Herald up to yesterday only about 30 hardy souls had taken advantage of the offer, with the water temperature hovering around 16 degrees.

The 50m pool temperature is usually just over 27 degrees and the therapy pool 35 degrees.

Pool manager Hendrik Geyer said he and his staff were pleased to have the repairs completed.

“We felt sad for our regular customers and other pool users but sometimes these things happen.

“Everyone has done everything they could to get the repairs completed and get the pools warm again.”

The water temperature began to steadily rise yesterday.

Mr Geyer said it was expected the therapy pool would be back up to its normal temperature this morning.

“We expect the 50-metre pool will be back to its normal temperature this afternoon.”
