Wainui Beach School is one of several schools that has signed up for the Wednesday Challenge, an initiative launched this week to encourage families to use healthier, more fun and sustainable transport for their daily journeys.

Making their way to school yesterday morning were, Zoe Kluiters, Sanya Lawler, Indigo Kluiters, Tovia Lawler, Penny Davis, Harry Davis, Mason Slade , Molly Roberts and Ralph Dibble (with scooter). Wainui Beach School teacher aide Anna Briant and, Sarah Somerton and Harley Dibble (with son Louis) joined the children.

Mrs Somerton is the Wednesday Challenge Tairāwhiti Schools project manager and Mr Dibble is the Tairāwhiti Environment Centre chair.

The environment centre applied for funding for the project, which will run until November. “There are a host of benefits that come with the initiative, from environmental to health and wellbeing,” Mr Dibble said.
