TICKETS have gone on sale for the annual Take a Kid Fishing trip to the Ngongotaha trout hatchery near Rotorua on August 5 and organiser Murray Ferris expects the seats on the bus to go quickly again.

“The day trip to the hatchery has been going for close to 20 years now and has always proved incredibly popular,” he said.

The event has been supported again this year by major sponsors the fishing club, also the Motu Outdoor Enterprises Trust, Gisborne Angling Club, First Light Frozen, Pak’n Save, Waikaremoana Boating Association and Eastern Region Fish and Game Council.

“Tickets have gone on sale at the Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club office at $25 a head.”

The youngsters taking part range in age from 6-12.

“As long as they are able to wave a fishing rod round, all they need is their wet weather gear and lunch. All the rods are provided,” Mr Ferris said.

“We would like to see some of the other schools come on board this year.

“In the past most of our young anglers have come from Ilminister Intermediate.”

The tour party stop off on the beach front at Opotiki on the way home for a barbecue.

“We leave from the fishing club at 7am and normally get back into Gisborne by 7pm,” Mr Ferris said.

There will be room on the bus for 40 youngsters again this year.

“They will all come home with a trout for the dinner table.”
