THERE were 3492 sheep sold at Matawhero yesterday, including 3192 store lambs, many of which had been trucked from Wairoa.
Prices remained steady for all sheep.
Farmers on the Poverty Bay flats are now buying store lambs as processing crops and grapes are being harvested.
The best price of $140 for store lambs went to The Proprietors of Tahora for 71 wether lambs from Papuni Station in the Ruakituri Valley.
Tangihau Station at Rere topped the store ewe lambs, and were paid $126 for a pen of 62.
KJ and RE Fisher, at Motu, offered four pens of five- and six-year store ewes totalling 265. These fetched from $116 down to $94.
They were shorn, with good body condition and sound one- to two-year mouths.
The 10 prime ewes sold from $120 down to $90.
