What have the Romans ever done for us? I propose London changes back to its original name, which could have been Llyn Dain, Welsh for “pool of the Thames”, or Llan Dian, referring to the Temple of Diana which was supposed to have stood where St Paul’s Cathedral is now. There was also the Celtic word Plowonida, which would have meant a broad, strong river in pre-Celtic dialect. Wasn’t till those pesky invading Romans took over the length and breadth of Britain and chose to call our place Londinium that the name changed to what we kind of know today, London.

I’m sure if someone said Llyn Dain or Plowonida International airport, you’d say “what and where is that?”

Invaders come in all forms. Wish those ingenious Romans could’ve not foisted their villas, public baths, sanitation, medicine, education, central heating, fabulous roads, aqueducts and canals on the poor mud-hut, square-wheel loving Brits! Time for the Brits to stand tall and claim back their place names . . . but we’ll keep the wine!
