Midway Surf Life Saving Club has received a special beach wheelchair that is available for use by the disabled and elderly folk who want to get down to and into the water.

“It was donated by the family of Suzie Sours, a surfer who passed way a couple of years ago,” club manager Gina Carroll said.

“We hope it will encourage more people to come down to the beach.

“We consider it to be a very worthwhile addition to our Community Hub.” The chair’s great fun for those who need it. Just ask nine-year-old Addy Marsh, from Wellington, pictured with mother Haley when they were in town on holiday. “She absolutely loved it,” father Jaron said. “We couldn’t wipe the smile off her face.

“It was definitely one of the highlights of her holiday in Gisborne to be in the water in the chair.”
