The Gisborne-East Cape region has escaped the latest drenching from the sub-tropics, but more is forecast to arrive next weekend.
This time around, while Northland, Auckland and Coromandel got a soaking, the heaviest falls in this part of the North Island were in the Bay of Plenty and top of East Cape.
However, an orange heavy rain warning was this morning issued for the Gisborne region from 8pm tonight through to 8pm tomorrow night.
The warning is for the top of East Cape and north of Tokomaru Bay, and MetService forecasts 100 to 150mm of rain, mainly about the ranges, with peak rates of 10 to 20mm an hour.
In the 24 hours to 8am this morning the Waikura Valley and Raukumara Station gauges at the top of East Cape had recorded around 50mm, but the rest of the district had lesser amounts, from 10 to 30mm.
