A Herculean 30 tonne slow speed shredder is perhaps the one-stop solution that Gisborne needs when it comes to dealing with issues such as slash.
The $900,000 Terex 820 machine was donated to Gisborne company Harrison Bulk Haulage by an Auckland company. It is fitted with a 500 horsepower engine capableof shredding about 150 tonnes of slash or woody debris in an hour.
Harrison owner Steve Allan says, “All we can do is try to provide a solution or part of a solution.
“The way it works is that you feed the slash to the hopper which then sends it to the shredding unit. Once it’s done shredding, the two metre conveyor belt will bring out the final product which can then be used for purposes of making biochar and so forth.”
Mr Allan says he has received a lot of interest from forestry companies wanting to tidy up “bits and pieces” and who were eager to have a demonstration.
“We’ve had JNL express their interest for a demo this Wednesday. So we’ll see how it goes.”
Besides shredding slash, the machine features customisable shredding programmes which include breaking down demolition waste and green waste, crushing concretes and road milling. Terex 820 can be operated both manually and by remote.
