Tairāwhiti Museum continued with the creative school holiday programmes this week with artistic workshops. Inspiration came from the exhibitions showing at the museum.
The workshops were “really popular”, said museum director Eloise Wallace. “It’s a chance for children and their whānau to get creative together,” she said.
During the
week local ceramic artist Fiona Mary Bryant held workshops at the museum on clay mask making.
Other workshops included creating sculptures inspired by Susan Holmes’ wearable art exhibition. Wednesday’s focus was on mixed media, the motivation being the Louise Walsh and Jolene Douglas exhibition which is a combination of pastels and painting with themes of the mystical, magical, botanical and life’s ebb and flows.
The workshops were held this week, the first week of school holidays. The cost of the two-hour classes ranged from $5 – $10 to cover the materials.
