Gisborne RSA members are feeling “very humble” after a successful Poppy Day collection.
Executive manager David Sly said Poppy Day raised just over $21,000, which was slightly down on the previous year.
“We are very grateful.”
Mr Sly stressed all money raised in Gisborne stayed in the district and went to RSA welfare services to assist returned servicemen and women, spouses/partners, widows/widowers and dependants, whether or not they were members of an RSA.
Assistance ranges from monetary grants for those in financial difficulty, help with practical tasks, visiting the sick and offering friendship and support in times of need.
