The parched soils and gardens of the Gisborne region might get some relief from rain forecast to fall on Sunday.

Intermittent showers next week might also help plants that are wilting.

The latest MetService forecasts and extended outlook say a front will move across the North Island late Saturday and Sunday.

The front will weaken, but there is “moderate confidence” rainfall could reach warning levels in the Eastern Bay of Plenty ranges.

Several models indicate the possibility of thunder and lightning on the coast from Ōpōtiki to East Cape.
