The Bangers to Bluff motor rally crews, including Gisborne’s Hamish Williams (left) and his Team Whiti Rā mates Jack Harper (director/owner of Driving Miss Daisy NZ Ltd, behind Hamish) and David Jefferd, were in Westport yesterday en route to Greymouth.
They are making their way to Invercargill in the Half Moon Bay Rotary Club-run event which started in Auckland last week and is raising money for Multiple Sclerosis New Zealand. Team Whiti Ra were among the 20 starters driving cars bought for $2000 or less on “roads less travelled” over 12 days.
“It’s been going good for us and our 2000 Ford Focus is going well so far, touch wood. We’re having fun,” Hamish said.
“A couple of the other cars have fallen by the wayside, though, because of car problems. One of the crews purchased another car to keep going.”
The cars will be auctioned off once the rally gets to Invercargill. Almost all proceeds from the sales and other fundraising efforts will go to MS. The rally cause can be supported at fundraise.msnz.org.nz/event/bangers-to-bluff/home
