APPLICATIONS are now open for this year’s Prime Minister’s Science Prizes, worth a combined total of $1 million.

Five prizes will be awarded to members of the science community that showcase talent, passion and high achievment in their field.

Categories include The Prime Minister’s Science Prize, MacDiarmid Emerging Scientist Prize, Science Teacher Prize, Future Scientist Prize and Science Media Communications prize.

Last year’s Science Teacher winner, Tania Lineham, is encouraging teachers from small regions to apply.

“I encourage them to put themselves forward because in a smaller area you are probably doing a lot more than you realise. Putting it down on paper for the entry process is a worthwhile and interesting experience. In the smaller regions, you often have a lot to do in both the school and in the local community,” she says.
