I live on Waimata Valley Road where the craters (formally known as potholes) have now got to a point where they present a danger to road users. Someone recently lost control of their vehicle avoiding craters and on Friday I hit one, destroying my front right tyre. I had to call a tow truck to get my vehicle into town for repairs.
Complaints were made in writing to GDC by a resident on July 21, August 2 and August 11 last year. Makeshift repairs were done and compacted by the contractor driving backwards and forwards over it in his ute. The repairs didn’t last long.
More complaints and requests for service were made on December 5, January 9, January 23, February 2 (after a vehicle lost control avoiding a crater; not acknowledged by GDC), February 7 and February 9. Those are the requests for service made by just one resident, but I know others have complained (including me).
We share the road with logging trucks, cartage contractors, stock trucks, forestry vehicles and residents. We are happy to do so, but we do need our road to be of a drivable standard.
Repairs to my car after hitting the crater on Friday have cost me just on $2K. What comeback do I have to recoup my funds?
