Opinion
On Monday, June 17 I was lucky enough to attend a day of learning “Perspectives from Our Multicultural Community on End of Life Care”. This seminar was hosted by Hospice Tairawhiti and included a snapshot of some of the different cultures we have here in Gisborne.
What a great opportunity
and thank you to the Hospice education co-ordinator Clarice Alderdice who organised the event. After listening to the speakers, Anne McGuire (Maori perspective), Mele Ouki (Tongan), Kathleen Labrado (Filipina), Muhammad Dean (Islamic), Surinderpal Kaur Sran (Sikh) and Monsignor Frank Eggleton (Catholic), a wonderful common thread was uniting all the speakers: “If you are unsure . . . ask.”
All the speakers did a fantastic job and shared their experiences and knowledge. So to the speakers, Clarice, Hospice Tairawhiti, please accept my gratitude for allowing this opportunity of learning.
