Saturday’s weather provided perfect conditions for the pilots of two Tiger Moths which flew in formation over the city and bay. This picture was taken by Pete McCombe, who was flying one of the biplanes. The other Tiger Moth is NZ786 — an air force plane from 1940 to 1947. It was used in Gisborne for topdressing before it crashed in the Otoko Valley in 1953. It was restored in the South Island to its original air force livery, and now takes pride of place at the Tairāwhiti Aviation Museum. It is flown regularly by owner Wayne Thomas. At anchor in the Bay is the Crystal Symphony cruise ship which was here for the day.
