A friendly cat that popped in daily to visit Tairawhiti Museum was even able to open the automatic doors by herself.

The bold cat would wander about the museum’s exhibition spaces before visiting Exhibit Cafe, where she made herself comfortable on people’s laps.

She was well-received, and had a very sweet nature, said Tairawhiti director Eloise Wallace.

However, as much as everyone enjoyed seeing the cat it was just not going to work having her live at the museum, she said.

“We knew she would be much happier in someone’s home.

“She is only about six months old and we were very anxious to find a new home for her.”

A post on Facebook sorted things out pretty quickly.

Mutts and Moggies Tairawhiti Animal Education and Care Charitable Trust came and paid for her to be de-wormed and speyed.

Now Ms Wallace said they already had a couple of people lined up wanting to adopt their black and white furry visitor.
