Could Activate Tairawhiti organise a photo shoot at the pipe outfall of all the councillors who voted for — and staff who recommended — the wetland deferral, in order to run a caption competition for a tourist promotion?
Here’s an idea to kick it off: “Come and visit Gisborne. Shit!
What a great idea!”
The winner, and those councillors and staff, could then be taken for a boat ride to the end of the outfall for a swim.
Councillor MacLean is quoted as saying “we cannot afford to spend another $20 million to appease a few”.
Leaving aside the white settler mentality in that remark, he must surely qualify for the foot-in-mouth award for 2017 when the survey results show a clear majority of 59 percent for the full option three or the even better option five.
