Surf Life Saving New Zealand handed out its annual national Awards of Excellence at Te Papa in Wellington on Saturday night and Australia-based Gisborne clubbie Cory Taylor shared one of the major gongs.
Taylor, a member of Dawson Building Midway and Northcliffe in Queensland, and Danielle McKenzie, of Mairangi Bay and Northcliffe, were jointly awarded the International Sports Performance of the Year prize.
Both featured heavily for the NZ Black Fins team at last year’s World championships at Riccione Beach in Italy.
Gisborne lifeguards were finalists in the various other awards categories.
Among the service awards announced, a New Zealand Distinguished Service Award was made to Riversun Wainui’s Dion Williams.
