A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

I’ve long said we should become an independent nation. However, I fear that there isn’t the stability or cohesion in Aotearoa to even start to think about a constitution.

We have a cohort of selfish people who can’t understand the concept of love thy neighbour, fairness for all or even what full participation in society might look like.

We have political parties which are relentlessly negative and who oppose everything just for the sake of scoring political points rather than the good of the people.

Money talks when political favours are desired.

Imagine how lopsided a constitution could look.

We’re simply not mature enough to go there.

I agree that our current system isn’t the most perfect, but it’s sort of working and will do for now.
